Varkala Beach
Varkala Beach is a calm and quiet beach which lies on the town of Varkala which is situated on the outskirts of Trivandrum district in Kerala. Varkala has a lot of places of interests for tourists visiting Kerala apart from the beautiful beach. One such attraction is the 2000 year old Vishnu Temple and Sivagiri Mutt, which is an ashramam located close to the beach.

And this is why the Varkala Beach is also called Papanasam beach. After you’ve spent enough time at the Varkala Beach, you can visit the 2000 year old Vishnu temple or the Janardhanaswamy Temple which is perched high up on the cliffs overlooking the beautiful beach. The Sivagiri Mutt is located nearby here and it is the final resting place of Sree Narayana Guru, a great philosopher and Hindu reformer. Every year the Sivagiri Mutt attracts countless Hindu devotees during the Sivagiri Pilgrimage days which fall between 30th December and 1st January.Varkala spa which is located 42 km away from Trivandrum is considered to be the best place along the coast of Kerala for viewing sunset. The sight of the setting sun melting into the sea is simply breathtaking. The mineral water springs gushing down from the hill are also worth visiting, these are believed to have medicinal properties.
